Opinion| Ever since President Trump took office, it has been clear to anyone with conservative views on social media, never mind a Facebook Page (who is not personally a celebrity, or friends with M.Z.) that the tech giants have waged a campaign of censorship against any now who has a different opinion that the social media company’s moderators (who seem to more often than not, be radically left leaning.)
This war began right around the time that President Trump was elected and has only gained steam, and been kicked into high gear, over the last 3 1/2 years.
A prime example of this occurred this past week when medical professionals testified that hydroxychloroquine has helped their patients with DTMNBN. (Disease That Must Not Be Named) The video shows doctors who claim to have used hydroxychloroquine to successfully aid in the treatment patients. That video has since, seemingly been scrubbed by all social media outlets.
One doctor, Stella Immanuel, MD, a primary care doctor from Houston claimed she has treated 350 patients using the controversial drug (along with zinc and other treatments) and has not lost a single patient.
For the sake of argument, let’s assume that she is full of it, do we really want some Silicon Valley minions telling us what content we can and can not consume? I know I do not. I did not sign up for Facebook to have the left’s agenda shoved down my throat. If that is what I wanted I would just turn on the TV, watch a Hollywood movie, or enroll in a university.
The reason for the censorship is simple, in my view: President Trump touted the drug as helpful and immediately Democrats, the mainstream media, and social networking worked tirelessly trying to paint hydroxychloroquine, not only as ineffective but dangerous as well, even after the study they referenced had to be retracted by the Lancet.
I want to be clear that no one is saying that hydroxychloroquine is a ‘cure’ for Covid-19. All we are saying is we want to hear what doctors who have used the drug to treat patients have to say about the outcomes they have seen.
Some Democrat Governors went so far as to threaten those who prescribed or supplied the drug to patients in their sates. This stands in stark contrast with President Trump’s signing of the ‘Right to Try‘ act earlier in his term.
You may recall a few months ago President Trump issued and Executive Order focused on the interpretation and enforcement of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Yesterday the President directed the FCC to implement the guidelines in his Executive Order.
This is HUGE: @realDonaldTrump strikes a blow enabling Americans to protect our most essential freedoms from the censors.

BREAKING: President Trump directs FCC to implement Executive Order Preventing Online Censorship to limit Section 230 https://t.co/u8VTIVtWXZ

President Trump’s Executive Order seeks to prevent the banning or censoring of content based on viewpoint of the speaker and demands transparency in the practices they use in suspending or banning accounts by threatening to remove the immunity these social media companies enjoy under the law.
The EO seeks to ensure that social media giants are not able to act as publishers of information by taking an editorial function while, at the same time, maintaining immunity from being held liable for the speech they do allow.
On Monday, the Department of Commerce, as directed by President Donald J. Trump’s Executive Order on Preventing Online Censorship, filed a petition to clarify the scope of Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act. The petition requests that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) clarify that Section 230 does not permit social media companies that alter or editorialize users’ speech to escape civil liability. The petition also requests that the FCC clarify when an online platform curates content in “good faith,” and requests transparency requirements on their moderation practices, similar to requirements imposed on broadband service providers under Title I of the Communications Act. President Trump will continue to fight back against unfair, un-American, and politically biased censorship of Americans online.
