The Democrat member of the state legislature in Georgia who said he would resign after endorsing President Trump’s re-election bid has retracted his resignation.
State Rep. Vernon Jones said.“I will not allow the Democrats to bully me into submission.”
Rep. Jones announced on Twitter that he had changed his mind, and that he was going to do everything he can to help President Trump get re-elected.
“Yesterday, I announced my intentions to resign from my office. But shortly thereafter, the out-pour of support I received was too great for me to ignore,” Jones wrote.
“I will not allow the Democrats to bully me into submission. I will not let them win. I will NOT resign.”
In the video posted with the tweet Jones added “I thought about it, and I talked to my family, and I talked to my supporters. Because of what you did for me, I am going to remain on the battlefield.”
“I am going to complete my term. I am going to continue to put my country before my party, and I’m going to do everything I can to get Donald J. Trump reelected.”

Jones, who has been taking heat from fellow Democrats since he endorsed Trump last week, had announced his resignation Wednesday, “Turn the lights off, I have left the plantation,” he said in a statement to the newspaper. “Someone else can occupy that suite. Therefore, I intend not to complete my term effective April 22, 2020.”
Jones was later interviewed on “The Rashad Richey Morning Show” on WAOK-AM in Atlanta, where he said he would remain a Democrat in order to help the party root out its “bigotry” toward black people.
“I don’t plan to leave the Democratic Party because somebody’s got to be in there to hold them accountable — hold them accountable to how they are treating black people (and) root out the bigotry,” he said, according to The Journal-Constitution.
Reaction to Jones reversal was swift:
Yep. Democrats support the black community until one of them leaves the plantation. Just ask Kanye West.

The vast majority of the responses to Jones’ tweet reversing course were enthusiastically supportive of his choice, which bodes poorly for the Democrats in November.
