New York State has quickly become the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States, with over 6,000 cases inn New York City alone.
Via the New York Post:
New York State identified 3,254 new coronavirus infections Saturday, bringing the state’s total over 10,000, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Saturday.
There are now 10,356 cases statewide.
In New York City, now the epicenter of the crisis, 1,803 infections were identified since Friday, bringing the new total to 6,211.
Those totals are going to rise as more testing is done, Cuomo said.
“That is the widespread increase that we have been anticipating,” the governor said, repeating that the more testing that is done, the more cases will be identified.
Cuomo added that the increase in identified cases in Westchester — where the state’s first major outbreak was located — is slowing.
“That is good news,” the governor said, stating that the original “containment zone” set up in the area is working.
This of course explains why New York Governor Cuomo reversed course Friday and essentially ordered the state into lockdown.
Unfortunately as the coronavirus pandemic rages in New York City the mayor’s senior staff is in near revolt over his response to the crisis according to a report in the New York Post.
When Mayor de Blasio dragged aides and members of his NYPD security detail to his Brooklyn YMCA Monday morning amidst the coronavirus outbreak, fellow fitness enthusiasts were coughing and sneezing — and a mentally ill person was walking around touching the equipment, a gym source said.
“It’s crazy that he made his staff and detail come with him to the gym and expose them like that,” the source said.
Well he’s a horrible person, so it should come as no surprise that he treats his staff way.
There’s also growing frustration from senior aides, who fault the mayor for dithering instead of making decisions, micromanaging instead of leading, and insisting he knows best instead of listening to others, three sources said.
‘Thank god for Cuomo,’ is a common refrain among the mayor’s staff, made only partly in jest, sources said.
That’s because Gov. Andrew Cuomo has taken the lead on the city’s COVID-19 response — canceling the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, shutting down large venues including Broadway, and even pushing the mayor to close public schools.
When you are forced to thank god for Andrew Cuomo you know the city is in bad shape under its current leadership.
But instead of the big picture, the head of the City that Never Sleeps has insisted on proofing all public materials about the city’s COVID-19 response from press releases to ad campaigns, one source said.
“Instead of micromanaging his team he should be leading right now,” the source said.
And the mayor has tossed aside advice from staffers along the way. Staff repeatedly warned the mayor that prematurely announcing a possible shelter-in-place order Tuesday would cause unnecessary panic.
Don’t think anyone is surprise that the socialist Bernie Sanders loving mayor of New York City would be ineffectual in a crisis.
In fact if those yokels got their way the country would be run the same way New York City is.
