BREAKING: Shooting Leaves 5 Dead Including Police Officer

A shooting at a gas station in Springfield, Missouri, left five people dead – including a police officer and the gunman.

The shooting took place overnight at a Kum & Go gas station at East Chestnut Expressway and U.S. 65, according to KY3.

Police have not said what led to the shooting, but three civilians were found dead inside the store, KSHB reports.

Springfield Police Department responded to the call and upon arrival came under fire, Law Enforcement Officer and Army veteran Christopher Walsh was struck and killed and Law Enforcement Officer Josiah Overton also came under fire and was shot and wounded. The gunman apparently took his own life after the exchange with the Law Enforcement Officers.

According to Local News KY3, During a 6 a.m. news conference, Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams said Officer Christopher Walsh, 32, was shot and killed while responding to the shooting on E. Chestnut near U.S. 65. Officer Josiah Overton, 25, was also shot and wounded.

“It’s way too early… I’ll leave it at that,” Williams said when asked how his department is handling the news.

Another person was wounded during the exchange by the assailant in the gas station and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

This is a developing story and we will continue to monitor and report as the facts are released.

Our prayers go out to the families of the victims and the Officers who have lost a brother.
