Trump blasts emergency coronavirus funding bill released by Pelosi because its ‘filled with pork’
By
President Donald Trump Wednesday evening criticized an emergency funding bill proposed by Democrats led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) because he said it is stuffed with measures that “have nothing to do with” the coronavirus outbreak.
Asked by reporters if he would back the measure, the president responded, “No, because there are things that are in there that have nothing to do with what we are talking about.”
Pelosi and House Democrats rushed the release of a 124-page bill Wednesday night around 11 p.m. Trump said it did not address many things he sought including a payroll tax cut.
The president also indicated that Democrats were using the outbreak as a crisis to force through partisan proposals.
“It’s not a way for them to get some of the goodies that they haven’t been able to get for the past 25 years,” Trump said.
In a back-and-forth with reporters Thursday, Pelosi seemed agitated when one asked her about “compromise language” Republicans might offer.

She also pushed back on whether she and Democrats would remain in Washington, D.C., for 24-48 hours in order to get a measure put together that would pass and would be signed by the president.
“We don’t need 48 hours, we need to just make a decision to help families right now… I’m not sticking around because they don’t want to agree to language, she said.
Q: Would House Dems stay if compromise isn't reached on the coronavirus response bill in the next 24-48 hours?@SpeakerPelosi: "We don't need 48 hours, we need to just make a decision to help families right now… I'm not sticking around bc they don't want to agree to language" pic.twitter.com/6B2V3cPxk6

Lawmakers were supposed to begin a weeklong recess on Friday. However, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday canceled it for the upper chamber, vowing to remain in Washington to get a bill done.
Also, as the bill is now, the GOP-controlled Senate looks poised to reject it, The Hill reported.
Last night, President @realDonaldTrump spoke to the nation about the Federal Government’s plans to prevent, detect, treat, and help create a vaccine to fight the global Coronavirus.
