At least 10 people were wounded Sunday in an early-morning shooting in New Orleans’ French Quarter, according to authorities.
The New Orleans Police Department is investigating the shooting that occurred in the early hours today in the 700 block of Canal Street.
At about 3:20 a.m., NOPD officers near the location reported hearing gunfire. Upon arrival to the scene, officers discovered multiple individuals had been struck by gunfire. No officers were reported injured.

Ten victims, two of which were reported to be in critical condition, were transported to local medical facilities for treatment.
Louisiana State Police and federal officers are assisting NOPD in response and investigation.

Fox News reports that Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson described the shooting as “a cowardly and senseless act that we cannot and will not tolerate.”
“For a fourth straight year, New Orleans continues to see significant reductions in violent crime. Mayor Cantrell, myself and all of City leadership remain steadfast and committed to continuing that trend,” he said. “We will not let the acts of a few deter us.”
Ferguson continued: “While this investigation is in the very beginning stages, one thing is certain — we will not stop until we identify and arrest those responsible.”

A motive for the shooting is unknown. No arrests have been made.
