KANSAS CITY, Mo. —As elected officials look for solutions to an end to gun violence, many are directing the blame toward Jefferson City and Washington, D.C.
“Are you disgusted? Yes! But just being disgusted is not enough,” U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-Mo), told a crowd gathered at the Penn Valley Education Center on Wednesday.
The congressman was joined by Mayor Quinton Lucas, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, KCPD Chief Rick Smith and others for a community event focused on ending gun violence.
Calls for gun control are frequently promoted following the occurrence of a public mass shooting. While Americans on both sides of the aisle view the shooting as tragic, Democrats and Republicans generally hold different views on the most effective solutions.
In the wake of shootings in Gilroy, California, El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, candidates are releasing more detailed plans and embracing federal gun buybacks, where the government compensates people for turning over weapons. Local governments across the U.S. have run such initiatives to get people to voluntarily give up guns.
Governor Kelly told the Sunflower State Journal that “It’s time to implement real, common sense gun-safety laws.”
Gun control advocates Laura Kelly, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer can’t wait to restrict your rights but refuse to acknowledge that their actions do nothing to disarm the violent criminals who are the real problem. ‘Commonsense gun-safety’ is a smoke screen for the anti-gun agenda of restricting and eliminating your right to defend yourself.
Governor Kelly desires to turn Kansas into a “Blue” state and depending on which county people focus on, the arguments vary from “Never going to happen” to “It is already happening”.
