Wow: Cory Booker wants to create a ‘Federal Dept. of Abortion’
In another sign that a bottom-tier 2020 Democratic presidential contender is getting desperate for votes — and attention — Sen. Cory “Spartacus” Booker of New Jersey has proposed a sick addition to the federal bureaucracy: An official Department of Abortion.
Or something like that.
He’s calling it something else, of course, but that’s what it may as well be called.
Seizing on a national abortion debate, Booker took the opportunity Tuesday to introduce his proposal.
“On Day One, I will create a White House Office of Reproductive Freedom charged with coordinating and affirmatively advancing abortion rights and access to reproductive health care across my Administration,” Booker pledged in a statement Tuesday
He added that he’ll be “addressing all barriers to full reproductive autonomy, such as access to health care, including maternal and infant health, quality, affordable child care, and comprehensive paid family leave.”
In addition, Booker’s vast “reproductive rights” (a term devised by the Left to mean ‘the right to kill your unborn baby’) plan would also, of course, reverse all efforts by POTUS Donald Trump to protect the sanctity of life. These include the president’s pro-life executive orders barring the use of federal funds for abortions and forcing employee health plans to cover contraception costs.
“It has never been more important to stand in solidarity and join the fight to ensure that all women have access to reproductive health care and abortion rights,” Booker’s statement noted further. “These far-right attacks on women’s rights must be understood as an attack on all of our rights.”
Booker’s plan also comes on the heels of a new national discussion about abortion and pro-life laws passed recently in Ohio, Georgia, Alabama, and Missouri that either restrict abortion to just the first few weeks of pregnancy or outlaw it altogether — all of which are designed to trigger a Supreme Court challenge.
In addition to the proposal, Booker also wrote “An Open Letter to Men on Abortion” last week for GQ in which he wrote: “Men, it’s on us to listen, to speak out, and to take action. Not because women are our mothers, sisters, wives or friends — but because women are people. And all people deserve to control their own bodies.”
Shame on GQ for giving this decidedly un-GQ male a forum. But we digress.
In any event, Booker isn’t going to become president anyway, but his idea of a Federal Department of Abortion could certainly catch on with the other Left-wing extremists who are vying for the Democratic Party crown.
At a time like this when a Democrat embraces the empowerment of the federal government to take life rather than protect it, we always feel it’s appropriate to ask this question — and now we ask it of Booker — “Aren’t you glad your mother wasn’t a fan of abortion?”
