Oh, brother: ‘Beto’ O’Rourke joins the tinfoil hat crowd in claiming that ‘we don’t know’ if POTUS’ 2016 election was ‘legitimate’
Robert “Beto” O’Rourke didn’t hold onto his congressional seat in 2018, having given it up to run against incumbent Texan and GOP Sen. Ted Cruz, a race he lost.
For some reason, he decided those experiences qualified him to become president, so he jumped into the increasingly crowded 2020 Democratic presidential sweepstakes with the hope of standing out enough to at least make a decent showing, if not win the nomination outright.
But that dream is quickly fading too, as now Beto can’t even muster the inner fortitude to push back against the insanity that passes for ‘substantive daytime political talk’ on The View and defend his decision to do a Vanity Fair cover (how’s he going to find the courage to stand up to Russia? China? Iran? Heck, Moldova?).
Perhaps sensing that his campaign is really pretty much over already, he’s indicating that he’s completely lost all touch with reality by venturing off the reservation to claim that POTUS Donald Trump’s election wasn’t really “fairly elected.”
Wow, that is so…2016.
In an interview with another crackpot (and racist) Joy Reid on her crackpot network, MSNBC, O’Rourke donned his tinfoil hat, as The Washington Examiner reported:
Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke pointed to Russian hacking of Florida voter registration information as support for his suspicions about the 2016 presidential election.
When asked in an MSNBC interview Saturday if he was confident President Trump had been elected fairly, the former Texas congressman agreed the use of propaganda on voters and electoral system breaches gave him doubts.
“I don’t have complete confidence in part because of what you’ve just shared about Florida, in part because we know from other secretaries of state in other states in the union that their systems were breached. We don’t know if vote tallies were changed, but that alone should be cause for concern,” O’Rourke said.
Yes, we do know; they weren’t. They couldn’t be because neither Russia nor any other country has the ability to do that. But you know who does? Democrats on the local level, especially in Florida and California.
“When you add to that one of the first phone calls this president made after the Mueller report was released was to Vladimir Putin to whom he described the Mueller report as a hoax, that is a green light, an open invitation, for Russia to continue to involve themselves in our elections. So I’m concerned about what happened in 2016,” he said, referring to special counsel Robert Mueller’s non-investigation into non-Russian collusion with the Trump campaign.
As someone who monitors congressional hearings and reads a lotof testimony, I can say with complete honesty that a) Russia did not ‘hack’ the 2016 elections; b) If Putin knows what’s good for him and the infrastructure of his country he won’t attempt to ‘hack’ the 2020 election; and c) The Trump administration is taking the Russian threat far more seriously than, say, CNN, MSNBC, the broadcast networks, the Washington Post, and The New York Times, all of whom continue to push this BS lie of Russia, the election-hacking, Trump-colluding, boogeyman.
Isolated incidents here and there are mutually exchanged, it should be noted; whatever Russia is attempting to do to us, we’re either attempting to do to them or actually doing to them (ditto for China, North Korea, etc., because American cyber warriors are pretty damned good at what they do).
But here we have Beto, upset that his campaign has bombed, upset at believing all the nonsensical hype foisted upon him during the 2018 election cycle, and upset that his relevance is waning spewing the most nonsensical garbage — and not being challenged on it.
Perhaps all that Beto will have left after he is eliminated from the 2020 Democratic presidential sweepstakes is his tinfoil hat as a souvenir.
