Concerns rise over U.S., Russia ‘stumbling into war’ — and we can thank Democrats’ ‘collusion’ hoax for them
U.S. military commanders and defense analysts not only see a new “Cold War” with Russia coming, they see something far worse if the two countries continue along the same path: Outright war that would devastate both countries and make large portions of the planet uninhabitable for centuries.
The Associated Press notes:
The deep chill in U.S.-Russian relations is stirring concern in some quarters that Washington and Moscow are in danger of stumbling into an armed confrontation that, by mistake or miscalculation, could lead to nuclear war.
American and European analysts and current and former U.S. military officers say the nuclear superpowers need to talk more. A foundational arms control agreement is being abandoned and the last major limitation on strategic nuclear weapons could go away in less than two years. Unlike during the Cold War, when generations lived under threat of a nuclear Armageddon, the two militaries are barely on speaking terms.
“During the Cold War, we understood each other’s signals. We talked,” the top NATO commander in Europe, U.S. Army Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti, who is about to retire, said, according to the AP. “I’m concerned that we don’t know them as well today.”
Scaparrotti said he’s only met two times with Gen. Valery Gerasimov, the chief of the Russian general staff, though he adds that the two commanders have spoken more often by phone.
Still, that isn’t enough.
“I personally think communication is a very important part of deterrence,” Scaparrotti said, in reference to the notion that potential enemies who know each other’s capabilities and intentions are less likely to march into war “So, I think we should have more communication with Russia. It would ensure that we understand each other and why we are doing what we’re doing.
“It doesn’t have to be a lot,” he added.
Current U.S. law prohibits “military-to-military cooperation” unless the U.S. defense secretary certifies that Russia “has ceased its occupation of Ukrainian territory” and “aggressive activities.” Last year, the law was amended say that it does not limit military talks aimed at “reducing the risk of conflict.”
And while there is much to be suspicious about when it comes to Russia, there is one political party more to blame for the current tense state of affairs between Washington and Moscow — the Democrat Party.
Before he took office, POTUS Donald Trump said repeatedly that he hoped he could forge a better relationship with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, not one of complete, blind trust but more along the lines of President Ronald Reagan, whose “trust, but verify” approach with the Soviet Union was the right combination of building better relations with a well-armed nuclear opponent without completely letting our guard down.
The message was one of cooperation where possible, while always considering and pursuing our own interests first.
That can’t happen right now because of the phony-baloney “Russian collusion” hoax fabricated by the Obama administration and perpetuated by Democrats in Congress and their sycophantic allies in the Washington establishment media.
Trump has said in the past, essentially, ‘Would getting along better with Russia be such a bad thing?’ — and of course, topically anyway, the answer is a resounding no. Why wouldn’t it be in our interests and those of our allies and the world for the two most heavily-armed nuclear powers to find mutual areas of agreement and cooperation, thus ratcheting down the tensions?
It would, of course, but any notion of improving ties with Russia has been completely taken off the table by this “collusion” hoax and the continued perpetuation of it by lunatics in Congress like Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, two California Democrats who are the original “collusion truthers.”
The results of this Democrat-inflicted crisis are playing out as we speak. Shunned and sanctioned by the U.S., Russia’s Putin has been free to reshape his corner of the world in a manner that competes, rather than compliments, U.S. and NATO interests.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared today that the Western, liberal model of society is dying, and a new world order is taking its place. Lavrov made the comments at his annual meeting with students and professors at the Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Academy, reported Russian state news agency TASS.
“The Western liberal model of development, which particularly stipulates a partial loss of national sovereignty – this is what our Western colleagues aimed at when they invented what they called globalization – is losing its attractiveness and is no more viewed as a perfect model for all. Moreover, many people in the very western countries are skeptical about it,” Lavrov said.
According to him, global development is guided “by processes aimed at boosting multipolarity and what we call a polycentric world order.”
“Clearly, multipolarity and the emergence of new centers of power in every way requires efforts to maintain global stability and search for a balance of interests and compromises, so diplomacy should play a leading role here,” Lavrov went on to say. “Particularly because there are a lot of issues that require generally acceptable solutions. These include regional conflicts, international terrorism, food security and environmental protection. This is why we believe that only diplomacy can help make agreements and reach sustainable decisions that will be accepted by all.
“The US and its allies are trying to impose their approaches on others,” Lavrov noted. “They are guided by a clear desire to preserve their centuries-long dominance in global affairs although from the economic and financial standpoint, the US – alone or with its allies – can no longer resolve all global economic and political issues,” he said.
“In order to preserve their dominance and recover their indisputable authority, they use blackmail and pressure. They don’t hesitate to blatantly interfere in the affairs of sovereign states.”
Russia was always going to pursue its own interests as well, don’t get us wrong. But because of the Democrats’ continuation of a hoax that demonizes the president’s every attempt to win some semblance of cooperation wherever possible from Russia, we now find ourselves and our two countries in a place that POTUS Trump never wanted us to be.
Literally, Democrats would rather risk turning large portions of the planet into a nuclear wasteland at a cost of tens of millions of lives (including American lives) rather than see the president improve relations with Russia.
