Things just got REALLY bad for Empire actor Jussie Smollet.
Smollett has been indicted on 16 felony counts by a Chicago grand jury!
16 FELONY COUNTS!
Smollet was originally charged with just one felony count of disorderly conduct in filing a false police report.
But that was then- this is now.
While it’s unclear what the additional charges are at this point, one thing is clear- he’s in a hell of a lot of trouble.
Smollett, who is openly gay and black, reported that on Jan. 29, he was attacked by two masked men as he was walking home from a Subway restaurant. He claimed that the men shouted racial and anti-gay slurs at him, poured a substance on him, threw a rope around his neck and shouted, “This is MAGA country!”
The whole thing was a fabricated lie.
It’s possible that the additional charges stem from the fake hate letter he claimed he received.
Initially police officially called Jussie a “victim” but police had real doubts about Jussie’s story early on. They found it weird he kept the rope around his neck for 42 minutes after the “attack,” and were suspicious when he took them to the scene and immediately pointed to a camera which he said captured the incident. It turned out that the camera was pointed in the wrong direction.
Amid questions about the alleged attack, Smollett said that he was angry and “pissed off” about “attacks” he’s received from people that didn’t believe or didn’t care, about his allegations.
His comments came during an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts on “Good Morning America.”
“At first it was a thing of like, listen, if I tell the truth, then that’s it — cause it’s the truth,” he said. “Then it became a thing of like, oh, how can you doubt that? Like how do you not believe that? It’s the truth.”
It was all a fake hate crime and now, hopefully he will pay the ultimate price.
We will let you know more as details come in.
