Earlier this month, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) came under fire for anti-Semitic tweets she sent out over her social media accounts.
She claimed falsely that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the pro-Israel lobby, pays politicians to be pro-Israel. Democrats and Republicans instantly condemned her for bringing up old anti-Semitic stereotypes about Jews.
Omar was eventually forced to apologize for the tweets.
Then just this week, she was forced to apologize again during a private conference call with prominent Jewish organizations.
From The Times of Israel:
In a brief confidential conference call with Jewish organizations, Rep. Ilhan Omar apologized for any hurt caused by her tweets suggesting that AIPAC pays politicians to support Israel.
“Let me reiterate my sincere apology for any actual hurt my words have caused,” Omar, a freshman Democratic congresswoman from Minnesota, said on Tuesday afternoon, according to someone present on the call.
“I know there are a lot of people who in the last weeks have expressed support in trying to say this isn’t anti-Semitic or this shouldn’t be looked at in that way,” she added.
But Omar said it is up to the Jewish community to define anti-Semitism.
“I do not want to give space or energy to anyone who wants to minimize the hurt,” she said. …
But even with this most recent apology, Rep. Omar just can’t stay out of trouble.
The most recent news is that she once rubbed elbows with staunch pro-Communist, anti-American forces.
From The Daily Caller:
Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar is again inviting questions over the political company she keeps.
In a story first reported Tuesday by the Washington Free Beacon, Omar traveled as a delegate with the left-wing Witness for Peace group in November of 2017. The group was formed to oppose President Ronald Reagan’s anti-communist policies in Central America.
Since then, it has built relations with Cuba’s communists and stood in solidarity with Venezuela’s economic chaos, opining that “Venezuela is not alone” and defending the country’s “legitimate” president. The group also seeks to remove the United States from Guantanamo Bay while one of its board members has called for the “eradication of Israel,” the Free Beacon notes.
A quick perusal of the Witness for Peace website reveals an organization that remains firmly rooted in the Cold War — on the Soviet Union’s side. The group is unabashedly pro-Cuban and warns that Guantanamo is not “just a naval base” but a location “where unspeakable human rights violations are committed by U.S. military officials in the name of the War on Terror.” …
What do you think of this latest development?
Should Rep. Omar resign?
