Chris “Badger” Thomas RIGHT WING TRIBUNE–
Democrats haven’t even grabbed the Speaker’s gavel from Republicans in the House of Representatives yet, but they’re wasting no time in preparing a raft of gun control bills they plan on fast-tracking to the floor for votes. Their latest impingement on American’s right to keep and bear arms: banning all private gun sales.
With backing from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and key chairmen, Democrats will move to require federal background checks on all gun sales, part of a broader effort by the party to advance long-stalled gun control measures, Truth About Guns reports.
H.R. 8 would outlaw the private gun sales Americans have enjoyed since December 15, 1791, the date on which the Second Amendment was ratified. This would criminalize a neighbor who sold a gun to lifelong neighbor without first getting government permission via a background check. It would also criminalize a friend for selling a gun to lifelong friend without government permission.
Democrat Rep. Jerry Nadler, who chairs the Judiciary Committee, said, “We will stop the epidemic of gun violence in this country,” according to Role Call. Rep. Mike Thompson and Rep. Pete King have been trying to get a bill requiring background checks on private sales since 2012.

On January 8, Breitbart News reported that House Democrats introduced the legislation, dubbed H.R. 8, in honor of the eighth anniversary of the January 8, 2011, attack on Gabby Giffords.
“It is truly blessing to have former Rep. @GabbyGiffords join us to introduce #HR8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, eight years after the Tucson shooting.”

Representative Henry Johnson of Georgia said, “Because background checks are not required for sales by unlicensed gun dealers, guns end up in the hands of dangerous people. The failure of Congress to pass universal background check legislation has eroded our sense of safety on the streets, in our schools, and even in our places of worship.”
