Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office just issued an extraordinary statement that destroys a “bombshell” (FAKE) news report that claimed that President Trump directed Michael Cohen to lie about discussions over a proposed Trump Tower project in Moscow.
“BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate,” Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller’s office, said Friday.
Fox News reports that the statement is remarkable in that Mueller’s team rarely issues statements in response to news stories. But BuzzFeed’s story sparked immense interest from Democrats, who called for renewed investigations and even suggested the allegations could be a basis for impeachment proceedings.
In a story published Thursday, BuzzFeed cited two unnamed federal law enforcement officials involved in an investigation on the matter who said Cohen acknowledged to Mueller’s office that he was instructed by Trump in 2017 to lie to Congress about the now-abandoned real estate deal to build a Trump Tower in Russia.
The report said Mueller’s office first learned of the directive from interviews with witnesses from the Trump Organization and internal company email, text messages and documents.
The report, which was not been confirmed by Fox News, was immediately dismissed by President Trump’s legal team.
“Any suggestion – from any source – that the president counseled Michael Cohen to lie is categorically false. Michael Cohen is a convicted criminal and a liar,” Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani said. “… Today’s claims are just more made-up lies born of Michael Cohen’s malice and desperation, in an effort to reduce his sentence.”
Earlier Friday, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., whose committee is already investigating the president and his ties to Russia, called the allegations in the report “the most serious to date.”
“The allegation that the president of the United States may have suborned perjury before our committee in an effort to curtail the investigation and cover up his business dealings with Russia is among the most serious to date,” Schiff said in a statement. “We will do what’s necessary to find out if it’s true.”
Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., said the House should begin to “establish a record” of whether Trump “committed high crimes,” repeatedly hinting on Twitter at the potential for impeachment proceedings.
“Based on the Buzzfeed report and numerous other articles showing @realDonaldTrump committed Obstruction of Justice and other possible felonies, it is time for the House Judiciary Committee to start holding hearings to establish a record of whether @POTUS committed high crimes,” Lieu tweeted.
Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, called for Trump to leave office or face impeachment if the report is accurate.
“If the @BuzzFeed story is true, President Trump must resign or be impeached,” he said.
The two authors of the “bombshell” Buzzfeed story about President Donald Trump are contradicting each other.
The story, which is being pushed on every network and in every newspaper, is that President Trump told Michael Cohen, his former attorney, to perjure himself before Congress.
But things got interesting when one of the authors appeared on CNN and said that they had not seen the documents they were reporting on.
Now Buzzfeed has admitted to CNN that it has not seen any of the evidence that President Trump did anything, Mediaite reported.
Anthony Cormier is one of the two investigative reporter at BuzzfeedNews who co-authored the bombshell report published Thursday night — a report which claimed President Donald Trump directed his former lawyer Michael Cohen to lie during Congressional testimony over discussions between the Trump Organization and Russian authorities about a Trump Tower Moscow project.
Cormier appeared on CNN’s New Day and revealed that he had not seen the evidence underlying his report.
Host Alisyn Camerota opened the interview by asking Cormier if he had seen the evidence to which Cormier replied: “Not personally.” He then clarified that “the folks we have talked to — two officials we have spoken to are fully, 100 percent read into that aspect of the Special Counsel’s investigation”
The suborning of perjury described in the report, if true, is a federal felony and the clearest evidence of obstruction of justice to date. Cormier’s admission that he had not seen the evidence of emails and texts cited in his article will certainly raise reasonable questions among Trump’s defenders and Republicans who have thus far been remarkably silent on this story since it broke Thursday night.
Despite the admission of having not seen the evidence in question, Cormier explained his sources with impressive detail.
“[Our sources] have been working the Trump Moscow tower portion of the investigation…before Mueller. So they had access to a number of different documents, 302 reports which are interview reports,” he said. “That stuff was compiled as they began to look at who the players were speaking with, how those negotiations went, who all from the Trump organization and outside the organization were involved in getting that tower set up.”
They seem rather confident on a story that has evidence they have not seen.
But then the other author, known liar, Jason Leopold who has fabricated sources and evidence before, appeared on MSNBC and said that they had seen the documents.
BuzzFeed's @a_cormier_ told CNN this morning that they have not actually seen the documents they're reporting on.

Cohen is slated to appear for public testimony before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Feb. 7.

I never thought I’d say this but KUDOS TO MUELLER for debunking this Buzzfeed TRASH!
