The Arabic-language al-Baladi news channel affiliated to the militants in Syria reported on Saturday that the Russian forces have been deployed in regions near the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and US forces’ positions in Southeastern Deir Ezzur.
It added that the Russian forces have been for the first time deployed in the region after the Syrian army regained control of the Western banks of the Euphrates river. Meantime, the Syrian army troops have started military operations against the ISIL in Badiyeh (desert areas) of Deir Ezzur, Fars News Agency reports.
Russia has completed the first delivery of S-300 systems to Syria, including 49 units of equipment-related components such as radar, basic target acquisition systems, command posts and four launchers, according to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
Moscow insists that the United States should withdraw from the al-Tanf area in Syria, and the Rukban camp should be closed, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin
“This camp is located in the Al-Tanf area, which is illegally controlled by the Americans. Americans have to leave that area. While they are there, this camp is under their protection. And the entire area is quite extensive. Unfortunately, according to some information, this territory is used, among other things, to ensure that terrorists, Daesh* militants organize a shift change there and rest.” ~ Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin
The US Air Force may employ F-22 stealth fighters and F-16CJ Vipers to suppress and destroy enemy air defenses in response to Russia’s deployment of S-300 surface-to air missile systems to Syria.
The US already used the F-22s and F-16CJs during the opening stages of its military campaign in Syria when it was not yet clear how Syrian government forces might respond to their appearance in the country’s airspace.
