A California man is being credited for heroism after he reportedly jumped in front of a woman who was allegedly being attacked by a machete-wielding man, Fox News reports.
Blaine Hodge, 27, was at a Starbucks in Bakersfield on Sunday when a woman ran into the store, convinced someone was trying to kill her, KGET-TV reported.
27-year-old Blaine Hodge and his friend, Joe Harris, decided to go to Starbucks on Stockdale Highway around noon on Sunday, the decision would turn his world upside down.
As they stood in line, a female ran into the coffee shop and she was screaming and yelling for help.
“She was panicked. She was saying ‘help me’ and then at one point she said, ‘this guy’s going to kill me,'” ~ Joe Harris
The females reported ex ran in shortly behind her and began his assault, thats when Hodge intervened to save the female’s life from the assault.
“A man came in, He was holding something in his hand. I had no idea what he was holding. Everyone else was running away and he was the first person to run straight to the action, He was like, ‘I’m going to stop this guy, regardless if I get stabbed or not. I can’t let this woman die.” ~ Joe Harris
Blaine Hodge was suffered multiple stab wounds as well as suffered deep cuts to both hands. The fingers on his right hand, as of Monday, immobile. Hodge has lacerations to his arms and his knee. In all, he required close to 200 stitches while at Kern Medical. Not to mention, surgery on his right hand.
Robert Daniel Rivas is charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest.
The female victim stabbed is still in critical condition at Kern Medical Hospital.
