A Boston police captain’s son faces 20 years in prison for plotting an attack on a college to support the Islamic State group.
Prosecutors say Ciccolo plotted to use assault rifles and explosives to carry out his attack at an unidentified school.A statement released by Boston police Capt. Robert Ciccolo’s decision to alert the FBI about his son “likely saved the lives of numerous innocent people.”
His defense attorney claimed that Ciccolo did not have the mental capacity to carry out the attacks as well as he struggles with substance abuse issues, and that it was because of his rough childhood that he felt the need to connect to ISIS and be part of an organization.
Alexander Ciccolo is an American citizen from Adams, Massachusetts, who was allegedly planning a major terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Counter Extremism– After his arrest and detention at Franklin County House of Correction, Ciccolo stabbed a nurse in the head with a pen, “leaving a bloody hole in the nurse’s skin and causing the pen to break in half.”* Ciccolo apparently has a “long history of mental illness,” according to a September 2014 tip to the FBI.*
