North Korean officials have warned in a letter to the United States that denuclearization talks were “again at stake and may fall apart”, CNN reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The letter was delivered directly to U.S Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and stated that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s government felt that the process could not move forward, Reuters reports.
“The US is still not ready to meet (North Korean) expectations in terms of taking a step forward to sign a peace treaty,”
Why does this remind me of a child throwing a temper tantrum to get their way? Oh. because that is exactly what it is! North Korea has not lived up to a single agreement that was made in the peace treaty. In fact, they have done just the opposite when it comes to their nuclear facilities and ICBM’s and yet the United States has done nothing about it up to this point.
North Korea just days ago, started their saber-rattling and rhetoric against the United States:
“Such acts prove that the U.S. is hatching a criminal plot to unleash a war against the DPRK and commit a crime which deserves merciless divine punishment in case the U.S. fails in the scenario of the DPRK’s unjust and brigandish denuclearization first. US units based in Okinawa, Japan were staging drills aimed at infiltration into Pyongyang. The US is busy staging secret drills involving man-killing special units.
We cannot but take a serious note of the double-dealing attitudes of the U.S. as it is busy staging secret drills involving man-killing special units while having a dialogue with a smile on its face.” ~ The DPRK
The President has acknowledged that nuclear talks aren’t going as well as he had intended.
President Donald Trump has told Pompeo to call off a trip to North Korea “at this time”, citing insufficient progress on denuclearization.
“I have asked Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to not go to North Korea, at this time, because I feel we are not making sufficient progress with respect to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Because of our much tougher trading stance with China, I do not believe they are helping with the process of denuclearisation as they once were despite UN sanctions against the nuclear-armed regime.” President Trump
We are currently at a stage with North Korea and China in which we have to send a clear and direct message, one that lets them know we will not be threatened or intimidated by their lies and saber-rattling.
