Chris “Badger” Thomas RIGHT WING TRIBUNE–
BRISTOL, CONN. – ESPN will not show the national anthem during “Monday Night Football” broadcasts this year, the company’s president said on Friday.Jimmy Pitaro addressed the controversy at ESPN’s annual football media day, FOX News reports.
“We generally have not broadcasted the anthem and I don’t think there’s going to be any change this year. Our plan going into this year is to not broadcast the anthem. Again, there could be changes. It’s somewhat unpredictable what’s going to happen in the world but as of now our plan now is to not broadcast the anthem. We have communicated that back to the NFL. They have not asked but we proactively just as a courtesy and as good partners let them know what our plans are. We want to be in business with the NFL and I believe they want to be in business with us. We’re optimistic about not just about the next four years but for the long-term partnership.”
The network president added that the organization will cover events if they think they are “newsworthy.” This includes examples of a player taking a knee or the Eagles being disinvited from the White House etc.

Regarding the coverage of controversy surrounding players protests and the anthem, Stephanie Druley, ESPN senior vice president of event and studio production, said, “We’ve seen the data from our fans that they like the game and that’s what they want. So that’s where we will keep our focus.”
President Trump took a shot at Gov. Andrew Cuomo as he launched a petition to force “SPINELESS” ESPN to air the playing of the national anthem on “Monday Night Football” broadcasts, according to a report.
TMZ reports that Trump was PISSED and sent an email to his supporters announcing that he’s started a petition to get “The Star-Spangled Banner” on TV.
“Just after we heard a sitting governor trash America, ESPN has now decided it will no longer play the National Anthem before Monday Night Football,” the email from Trump said. The governor referred to is NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo … who made headlines last week for saying America “was never that great.”
Trump’s email continues … “If ‘America’ is too offensive for anyone in our country, then what are they doing in America?”
