An Alabama mother has been arrested for leaving her 8-month-old baby in a hot car, police said.

The baby was rescued by an unnamed Valley, Alabama Walmart employee who was on his or her break. The employee reportedly saw the woman, later identified as Casey Hornsby, exit her vehicle with a toddler. Shortly after, the employee walked past Hornsby’s car and noticed an infant in the backseat, WTVM reported.

Officials with the Valley Police Department told WTVM none of the car’s windows were open.

The Walmart employee, with help from a few people, broke the car’s window and pulled the baby out. The baby was reportedly “red-faced and lethargic,” Fox News reports.

Police located Hornsby inside the store. When confronted, she admitted to forgetting the baby in the car, WTVM reported.

Hornsby was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

A couple of days after her arrest, Hornsby took to Facebook to respond to the incident.

“I have sat here for 3 days and watched people crucify me. And that’s ok. I was once one of y’all that said things like “I don’t understand how someone could do that.”

I never thought it would ever happen to me. Until it did. I can’t tell you the horror I felt that day and I have beat myself up worse than anyone ever could. I let my baby down. And I will never be able to forgive myself for that.

I could give everyone all the excuses in the world, but at the end of the day, there are none. I don’t know where my head was at, but it definitely wasn’t where it needed to be.

And I have to live with that.

My baby is alive and that’s all that matters to me.

Everyone that truly knows me, KNOWS I would NEVER hurt my babies on purpose. I have always been on top of everything when it came to my kids. I have also had so many people tell me that it happened to them, but they didn’t get caught.

It happens more than people realize. Maybe it shouldn’t, but it does.

So always check the backseat even if you know your kids aren’t with you. And if you want to continue to criticize me, just delete me. There is nothing anyone can say to me that I haven’t already said to myself. The only opinions that matter to me are those of my kids, everyone else is irrelevant.”

Thank God that the baby is safe.
