Police in Portland, Oregon, revoked a permit for a pro-America march and declared the scene a riot when counter-protesters erupted in violence on Saturday, Breitbart reports.

Officers in riot gear deployed flash-bang grenades and sprayed tear gas to break up the dueling crowds as protesters launched fireworks and threw eggs, bottles and other items at each other, according to KATU in Portland.

The “Freedom and Courage” rally hosted by the right-wing Patriot Prayer group and its well-known leader, Joey Gibson, gathered at Terry Schrunk Plaza before taking to the streets. The group was granted a permit for the march, but police canceled it once violence ensued.

Rose City Antifa, arrived in a large force which they called it the “Defend PDX: Patriot Prayer’s Violence Must End” rally. A spokesman for Rose City said, “it is very important that antifascists keep up the pressure so that we can stop them once and for all.”

Despite the confiscations, the AntiFa group initiated hostilities by throwing eggs, bottles, and other items at the Patriot group, the paper noted. KATU

One video from the streets shows members of Antifa clearly throwing objects at the Patriot Prayer group before both sides clashed into a street brawl.

“On Saturday, June 30, 2018, during multiple protest events in Downtown Portland, large fights broke out in which several people were injured. During the protest, projectiles were thrown and officers deployed less lethal munitions, including aerial distraction devices (ADD) and rubber ball distraction devices (RBDD). Deputies with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office also deployed pepper spray and pepper balls. 
Portland Fire and Rescue provided on-scene medical evaluations to several people and four people were transported to area hospitals by ambulance. Of those transported, one person suffered what was believed to be serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and three suffered non-serious and non-life-threatening injuries.” ~ Portland LEO
