South Carolina — On Tuesday evening, members of the U.S. Marshals led Operation Intercept (OPIN) Fugitive Task Force, Charleston Division, and the K9 Unit of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested an MS-13 gang suspect who allegedly killed a man and burned the body.

Franklin Platero-Rodriguez was wanted for murder by the Walker County Texas Sheriff’s Office and by Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) for a 2014 Federal Charge of Failure to Appear. The OPIN Fugitive Task Force started working the case after receiving a request from the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force, revealed information that Platero-Rodriguez was possibly residing in Berkeley County.

According to the request Platero-Rodriguez, 21, of Lyn Lane in Ladson, who is a documented and confirmed MS-13 gang member, is accused of intentionally and knowingly causing the death of an individual by shooting him. After killing the victim, Platero-Rodriguez poured gasoline on a vehicle and burned it while the deceased was inside the trunk. Platero-Rodriguez fled to SC after committing the crime.

A search incident to arrest revealed Platero-Rodriguez to have a loaded 9mm pistol in his front pocket that was determined to have been stolen from Texas. The Ford F-150 matched the description of the vehicle used at the Texas murder scene, was seized as evidence and held for Walker County, Texas

Platero-Rodriguez was transported to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office for Platero-Rodriguez was booked and charged with the charges of: Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm; Possession of a Stolen Firearm; Fugitive in Possession of a Firearm. A hold was placed for Immigration Custom Enforcement and walker County, Texas.

“We work closely with our federal partners and arrests like this are a result of it. Platero-Rodriguez is a dangerous MS13 Gang member and I am glad that we were able to locate and arrest him without him being able to cause further harm,” Sheriff Duane Lewis stated.

FOX News reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told them that Platero-Rodriguez, through a loophole, was able to enter the country as an unaccompanied alien child (UAC) — an illegal immigrant under the age of 18 who’s entered the country.

The MS-13 gang, responsible for dozens of gruesome deaths throughout the U.S., was started by Central American immigrants, mainly from El Salvador, in Los Angeles in the 1980s. It has expanded since to include Hondurans, Guatemalans, Mexicans and other Central and South Americans.
