Mosul, IRAQ — Eighteen Islamic State members, including foreign leaders, were killed in a security operation, south of Mosul, an Iraqi military source said on Monday.
“Iraqi troops killed, today, 18 ISIS members, including two Russian nationals and a Turkish members, during an operation against Kan’ous village in Hammam al-Alil region, south of Mosul,” Brig. Gen. Mohamed al-Jabouri, official spokesperson for the Nineveh Operations Command, said.
Moreover, Jabouri said troops confiscated missiles at the rest houses of ISIS in Owainat village on borders with Syria, Iraqi News reports.
On Sunday, Maj.Gen. Saad Maan, spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, said troops arrested five IS members in al-Tanak district, west of Mosul, while two others were arrested in ambushes set in Qayyarah and Hammam al-Alil regions, south of Mosul.
Meanwhile RIGHT WING TRIBUNE reported that Iraqi authorities have arrested a chemist linked with Palestinian faction of Hamas on his way back from Turkey, a website close to the Palestinian armed group reported quoting his relatives.
Taha al-Jubouri was arrested upon his arrival to Baghdad International Airport, after he was surprisingly deported from Turkey, Quds Press reported.
According to the website, Iraqi intelligence agents interrogated Jubouri at a nearby prison facility.
Jubouri, 64, an Iraqi, was apprehended in Philippines’ capital Manila for entry documentation issues, after which he left to Istanbul in January, where he resided legally with his wife, Iraqi News reports.
Iraqi authorities have yet to confirm the arrest.
In January, Philippines authorities said they arrested Jubouri who appeared to have been involved in the manufacturing of rockets fired by Hamas on Israel. The authorities said, however, his deportation was purely for visa issues.
Israel has regularly launched airstrikes on Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. Tel Aviv has accused Hamas of firing rockets targeting its settlements.
