CBP Discovers Cocaine Shipment at El Paso port

EL PASO, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers working at the El Paso port of entry seized 15.3 pounds of cocaine Sunday. CBP officers located the drug load during an enforcement operation.

“CBP remains vigilant and focused on our homeland security mission,” said Beverly Good, CBP El Paso Port Director. “CBP personnel using various layers of enforcement are finding drugs, apprehending wanted people, and stopping illegal immigration at area ports on a daily basis.”

The seizure was made at approximately 8:55 a.m. when a 2013 Nissan Altima with a single occupant entered the Bridge of the Americas inspection area from Mexico. CBP officers were performing an enforcement sweep of the vehicles waiting in line when CBP drug sniffing dog “Ukey” alerted to the car. CBP officers initiated an exam and located a hidden compartment in the forward trunk area. The compartment contained six bundles. The contents of the bundles tested positive for cocaine.

Drug filled bundles in car.

CBP officers took custody of the driver, a 54-year-old U.S. citizen female from El Paso, Texas. She was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations special agents to face charges associated with the failed drug smuggling attempt.

While anti-terrorism is the primary mission of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the inspection process at the ports of entry associated with this mission results in impressive numbers of enforcement

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry.
