A New Jersey school district that allegedly suspended two high school students this week over a gun photo taken during a family visit to a private shooting range is facing community backlash and the threat of a lawsuit over district policies, NJ Ocean County New reports.
Amanda Buron, a Lacey resident and family friend of one of the suspended students said one of the photos shared on SnapChat featured four rifles, ammunition clips and a gun duffel with the caption “fun day at the range,” NJ.com reported.
Hold up, hit the brakes! Clip? Part of firearm training is knowing which parts are what on firearms, for safety and appropriate firearm knowledge makes a hobbyist better at what they are doing, also, you will not sound like a dumbass when talking about firearms.
• The clip is an apparatus that is utilized to store in ammunition together as a whole unit, and then it is inserted in the magazine of a firearm.
• Magazine works both as a storing instrument as well as a feeding device. Its component includes a spring in which it can launch the ammunition into the firearm.
Buron said the two students received a five-day in-school suspension after the picture drew the attention of Lacey Township High School officials, who argued that it violated the school’s policy on weapons possession.
The language in the high school’s student handbook, the policy said “any student who is reported to be in possession of a weapon of any type for any reason or purpose whether on or off school grounds,” would be subject to penalties including up to a one-year suspension.
The school district shortly faced community backlash for the alleged suspension, with many calling for people to appear at the school board’s next meeting on Monday to protest the decision.
The school, however, denied the students were suspended over the picture, Fox News reports.
“Information posted on social media is incorrect.”
The officials declined to provide any additional details or point out what exactly what is false.
The New Jersey Gun advocacy group caught wind of what the school did to the students over the pictures. They then sent the school district a cease and desist letter and also stated that if the school district did not comply, as well as change their policies in regards to the 2nd amendment, that a lawsuit would immediately follow.
“Schools do not have the authority to chill the rights of their students off of school grounds, and this blatant infringement of constitutional rights will not be tolerated. I don’t care if no students were disciplined. The policy has got to go.”
They also stated that the school district needs to apologize to the 2 students that were suspended for the photo.
The school district changed the wording of their policy, but they have slithered and sneaked from any accountability for their violation of the 2nd Amendment against the 2 students.
The new policy for the school district:
“Students are forbidden to carry any type of weapon or simulated weapon to school,” the revamped policy states. “Strict disciplinary action and legal actions will result if this occurs. Any person who knowingly has in his possession any imitation firearm in or upon any part of the building… without the written authorization of the governing officer of the institution, or while on any school bus is a disorderly person.”
The situation is far from over as the NJ firearm group is still investigating the issue due to the school districts violations.
The High School district has been involved with another “firearm” issue in the past.
Ed Cardinal, whose son attends a school in the same district, said the officials once demanded his son to remove a window sticker of a gun from his pickup truck that he drives to school.
“He was kind of heated about it and so was I,” Cardinal said.
They abided by the demands and removed sticker after the district threatened to punish the teen.
Instead of Principals, Teachers and PTA demanding to have Law Enforcement Officers in their schools, they are far more interested in pushing their own agendas and the anti-gun propaganda.
PTA and Teachers have united to protest firearms and they are throwing the youth on the front line. This is taking it too far and these anti-gun lunatics are abusing our children and mentally filling their heads with lies and fears over firearms. AFF Breaking News
