Blaze and Spitfire RIGHT WING TRIBUNE –
It’s really quite simple. Any parts of our history we don’t like, we should erase according to the politically correct world. I don’t think so! You can’t avoid repeating mistakes by pretending they didn’t happen. Let’s own it and move on. The flip side of the coin is that you are making a lot of people who view the flag as a sign of heritage really upset.
Another point I will make. Do you really want to spend the next 5 years removing every trace of the Confederacy from art, literature, entertainment, the public square and ultimately, our homes? When we are done with that, do you really think that there won’t be something else in our history that offends some other group so that we can spend the following five years purging that from the records. Repeating: own it, and move on.
From the recent actions of many elected officials that is something we’re not going to see anytime soon. The debate has now reached Washington and its not going away quietly I’m sure.
House Speaker John Boehner called for an “adult” debate over the display of the Confederate flag over a measure Republicans put forward to continue to permit its display at certain National Park Service-run cemeteries.
“We all witnessed the people of Charleston and the people of South Carolina come together in a respectful way to deal with, frankly, what was a very horrific crime and a difficult issue about the Confederate flag,” Boehner told reporters Thursday morning. “I actually think it’s time for some adults here in the Congress to actually sit down and have a conversation about how to address this issue.”
The Ohio Republican confirmed the cancellation of a planned vote that would’ve reversed amendments successfully added by House Democrats this week that would ban the use of federal funds for displaying the Confederate flag on federal land. “That bill is going to sit in abeyance until we come to some resolution,” Boehner said.
Boehner was among national Republican leaders who embraced Haley’s role in removing the flag, and he pointedly said Thursday that he did not believe Confederate flags should be displayed in national cemeteries.
A person has been arrested and charged with the murder of 9 persons in Charleston South Carolina and is awaiting trial, that is a fact. Anything else is a matter of pure speculation and has yet to be proven through to proper judicial process. The “Battle Flag” of the Confederacy is a typical knee jerk political response.
If you are going to take “offense” to the “Battle Flag” then you have to take “offense” to the Stars and Stripes flag of the United States of America used by the Union Army in the Civil War. You have to take “offense” to the crescent and Palmetto flag of the state of South Carolina which was also used as a “battle flag” in the Civil War. You also have to take “offense” of the use of the British Union Flag which Americans fought under in the War of the Conquest of Canada and subsequently against the British Union battle flag during the War of Independence” You have to take “offense” to the State Flag of Hawaii which has the British Union flag in the top left hand corner.
Next we will have people taking offense and in denial of the American Civil War and wishing to alter the truth and fact of an event in American History. This ignorance needs to stop, it’s only a tool of division and unfortunately it’s working as well as anything I have ever seen.
