Blaze and Spitfire RIGHT WING TRIBUNE –
The freedom of religion guaranteed by the First Amendment applies only to churches, not to individuals, a U.S. senator said on MSNBC recently. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-WI, the nation’s first openly gay woman elected to the U.S. Senate addressed the Supreme Court’s Obergefell vs. Hodges decision.
Ben Johnson at Life Site reports:
Baldwin responded that the First Amendment gave Americans no right to exercise religion outside the sanctuary of their church, synagogue, or mosque. “Certainly the First Amendment says that in institutions of faith that there is absolute power to, you know, to observe deeply held religious beliefs. But I don’t think it extends far beyond that,” she said.
Sen. Baldwin then likened the issue to the Obama administration’s contentious HHS mandate, requiring employers to furnish contraceptives, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs to female employees with no co-pay.
We’ve certainly seen the set of arguments play out in issues such as access to contraception,” Baldwin said. “Should it be the individual pharmacist whose religious beliefs guides whether a prescription is filled, or in this context, they’re talking about expanding this far beyond our churches and synagogues to businesses and individuals across this country.” “I think there are clear limits that have been set in other contexts, and we ought to abide by those in this new context across America.”
What about individual liberties guaranteed by our constitution- don’t our government officials ails understand or does it only apply when it is convenient? The Church is the Body of Christ, it is entirely made of individuals. So here we have a collectivist mindset revealed in Baldwin’s statement – liberals (which they in no ways are) are simply incapable of thinking individualism has merit or deserves protection. Wedded to the Borg, she is lost as is her humanity and her patent misunderstanding of American history. Why do Americans elect people to office who are clearly incapable of rational thought??
This makes absolutely no sense at all. A religion has never been something an individual is tied to only when they are in church. No one “check’s their faith at the door” upon leaving their church. The idea that our Constitution only gives us freedom of religion as long as we’re hiding within the walls of our churches is appalling, offensive, un-American and just plain historically and legally inaccurate. The fact that a Senator could get away with saying such a thing publicly should frighten us deeply. You’ll still see liberals say we’re just being paranoid about threats to our freedoms!!
Whether you are a Christian or not it is hard to deny that Christianity is in a war with homosexuality as there is no middle ground with the “gay lobby”. This battle over same sex marriage was never about equal rights but all about dominance over all opposition. The tragedy is that way too many Christians don’t realize that there can be no compromise with totalitarians who desire nothing less than their total destruction. You can’t call for “equal rights” and force other’s to bend their beliefs to suit your needs.
